2008 A-Sun All-Conference Selections
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 6, 2008) – University of North Florida Head Golf Coach Scott Schroeder was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Coach of the Year today, capturing the award after leading his team to its first ever Atlantic Sun Championship two weeks ago.
Schroeder is the first UNF coach to garner Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year honors after he helped his team to a top-50 ranking in the Golfstat poll most of the spring.
“I have been honored with this award because of the hard work and dedication of my players,” Schroeder said. “It is as much their award as it is mine. We are now looking forward to taking the momentum we built after the conference championship onto an NCAA regional.”
Schroeder wasn’t the only Osprey honored by the A-Sun this week. Senior Michael O’Neal was named a second team all-conference selection while Chris Kennedy was named an all-freshman honoree.
O’Neal has been a top-50 player in the nation most of the spring, while recording top-10 finishes in three events, including the A-Sun Championship. Kennedy, meanwhile, has been a staple in the Osprey lineup this season and cracked the Golfstat top 100 rankings in the fall. He is now one of four Ospreys on the roster to earn all-freshman honors in the Atlantic Sun, joining Jeff Dennis (2006), Jordan Gibb (2007) and J.C. Horne (2007).
All four of those players are expected in the lineup when UNF heads to the NCAA East Regional May 15-17 in Chattanooga, Tenn. UNF will join 11 other conference champions as well as 15 at-large selections at Council Fire Golf Club next week.
The Ospreys are seeded 15th in the 27-team field with the top 10 teams at the tournament moving onto the NCAA Championship.
