Sophomore Preston Hale went 2-for-4 with a double agianst No. 1 Florida State.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of North Florida team just couldn't figure out a way to keep up with the many weapons of the No. 1 Florida State Seminoles on Wednesday in a 10-2 loss.

UNF (21-17) allowed five runs in the bottom of the first, which was more than enough for FSU (33-3) to keep the Ospreys from within striking distance. Sophomore Preston Hale led UNF at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double.

The Ospreys didn't collect more than two hits in an inning until the top of the eighth, when freshman Robbie Collier smoked a double down the left field line, followed by an RBI single to center field by sophomore Kevin Martin.

Senior Travis Martin got the Ospreys off to a promising start in the top of the first when his RBI groundout allowed Hale to score after he reached on a double. But after that, the Ospreys couldn't figure out the smooth pitching of FSU's Mike McGee, who picked up the win after tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just one run on four hits.

The Seminoles tacked on three more in the fifth and sixth to take an 8-1 lead. FSU put the icing on the cake in the bottom of the eighth when Jack Posey hit a two-run home run to left field.

Junior RHP John Frawley pitched 2.1 innings in relief of redshirt freshman George Lott, who dropped to 0-1. Frawley allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three. Junior RHP Antonio Franzese closed out the game with 4.0 innings of relief in which he gave up three runs on six hits.

Seniors Andy Warren and Chad Knight both had their 11-game hitting streaks snapped with 0-for-2 performances. UNF was 1-for-4 with RBI opportunities and 2-for-12 with runners on.

The Ospreys will try to bounce back this weekend with a three-game series against Atlantic Sun Conference rival Stetson, beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday at Harmon Stadium. All three games will be aired live on WBOB-AM 1320 in Jacksonville and ASUN.TV.
