The University of North Florida softball team will try to build on the 9-3 homestand it compiled the last two weeks when it heads on the road this week, making stops at Florida A&M, East Tennessee State and Kennesaw State.
UNF (25-15) enjoyed the friendly confines of Jacksonville last week, winning seven-straight games before dropping a 6-5 contest to Canisius on Monday. During that 12-game stretch UNF hit .314 as a team, while outscoring its opponents 68-38. The UNF pitching staff compiled a 2.19 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .194 batting average.
This week’s road journey starts in Tallahassee, Fla., where the Lady Ospreys are looking for their first win at FAMU. The Lady Rattlers swept a doubleheader from UNF at home two years ago, but dropped a pair at the UNF Softball Complex last season. After Wednesday’s trip to Tallahassee, UNF heads north for a conference doubleheader at East Tennessee State on Friday before meeting up with old foe Kennesaw State on Sunday.
It might still be early in the A-Sun season, but plenty is on the line this weekend when UNF faces its first two conference opponents on the road this year. This will be the first trip to Johnson City, Tenn., for the Lady Ospreys who swept a pair of games from ETSU last season. UNF comes into the week alone in third place in the conference standings, while ETSU and Kennesaw State are in a group of five teams tied for fourth. The Lady Owls are 1-1 in conference play and are looking to extend a streak that includes six-straight wins against UNF and four-straight at their home facility.
