Fla. – The University of North Florida men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams can hold their heads high after a fine performance at this past weekend’s FSU Snowbird Invitational.
Highlights for the Lady Ospreys include Emily Kohler’s second-place finish in the javelin with a throw of 41.81m, breaking her own UNF outdoor record of 39.23m. Kohler also competed in the high jump (1.65), long jump (5.56), and triple jump (10.84), where she took home fourth, sixth, and eighth-place. Senior Amanda Davey led the way for the women in the 3000m, finishing second with a time of 9:53.89, while teammate Sarah Coghlan was one spot behind at third (9:58.62). Both athletes achieved personal bests in the event.
Senior Amy Stroder recorded a mark of 1.70m in the high jump to finish first overall. Elise Trexler finished right behind Stroder in third-place with a mark of 1.65m. Stroder also competed in the long jump, where she took home ninth with a distance of 5.51m. The DMR made up of Kelly Marshall, SaLydia James, Evelyn Moore and Kaitlyn Granger finished fourth with a time of 12:41.33.
As for the men’s team, Craig Sinbine, Dane Simmons, Marvin Moore, Will Pearce made up the DMR that took home third-place with a time of 10:35.60. Pearce also had a seventh-place finish in the 1500m with a time of 3:58.24. Other highlights included Nathan Holden finishing 16th-place in the 5000m with a personal-best time of 15:08.25, while teammate Sammy Palmer finished right behind him in 17th (15:19.60).
Other individual performances included:
--James finished 12th in the 400m dash with a time of 58.22.
--Evelyn Moore finished ninth in the 800m run with a time of 2:19.71.
--The 4x100m team of James, Stroder, Anne DelBovo, and Charisma Anderson finished eighth with a time of 48.03
--Simmons finished ninth in the 800m run with a time of 1:58.63.
--Kierra Miller finished17th in the shot put with a throw of 11.01m.
The men’s and women’s squads will return to action at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla., on Friday.
