The Ospreys competed against each other on stage to see who had the best physique in front of a crowd of approximately 400. The competition was divided among four different weight categories – lightweight, middleweight, heavyweight and super heavyweight – and finalists were selected from each category to face off in a final.
Junior Preston Hale, the 2008 runner-up, was crowned the 2009 overall champion, while junior transfer Ryan Puskar earned runner-up honors. T.J. Gavlik was named the freshman champion.
For a $5 donation, fans received a pink t-shirt with “UNF Baseball” on the front and “Tough Enough To Wear Pink” on the back. The Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) was in charge of fundraising for the event. All of the proceeds went to the American Cancer Society Jacksonville chapter.
“This has become an event that is a big part of the campus tradition,” head coach Dusty Rhodes said. “It goes for a great cause, and taking part in the fight against cancer is something that is important to our team because we've had two former players (Ben Watkins and Stephen Dandridge) lose their lives because of it. I am proud of our team's and SAAC's effort.”
The t-shirts will be available for purchase throughout the year. For more information on obtaining a shirt, contact Jenny Johnson at (904) 620-2263 or jjohnson@unf.edu.
