2008 All- Atlantic Sun Conference List
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - University of North Florida women's volleyball sophomore middle blocker/right side hitter Kaley Read was named to the 2008 All-Atlantic Sun Conference second team, announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
UNF's most consistent all-around player this season, Read leads the Lady Ospreys in kills (355), kills per set (3.38), total blocks (79), block assists (73), blocks per set (0.75), digs (288) and digs per set (2.78). Read finished fifth in the conference kills per set and kills. She finished fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.54) for A-Sun matches.
"I feel like Kaley is someone that can score against any competition we face - in or out of conference," head coach Kevin Campbell said. "She is a great slide hitter and has an excellent arm. She is an exceptional athlete, and I'm glad everyone in the conference sees that. Kaley is the consistent, steady player on our team and is wonderful to coach. I am excited she has received this honor."
Read showed her outstanding versatility with 11 double-doubles this season. Her best all-around performance came at Campbell on Oct. 4 when she blasted 23 kills and tallied a career-high 24 digs. She hammered out a career-high 27 kills against Mercer on Sept. 13, a mark that is tied for second-most in UNF history for a five-set match. Read also finished with at least 20 kills in a match on six occasions.
A nutrition major from Tampa, Fla., Read currently ranks 10th in the UNF career record book with 2.88 kills per set. She also ranks 10th on the career list with a .222 hitting percentage.
The honor is UNF's first All-A-Sun selection since 2006 and fifth total since becoming a member in 2005. Lipscomb's Alex Kelly was named the Player of the Year, while Jacksonville's Shelley Walroth earned Defensive Player of the Year honors. Channing Salava from Belmont was named the Freshman of the Year, and Mercer head coach Noelle Rooke was dubbed the Coach of the Year.
