Jeremy Shyatt is in his first season on the University of North Florida men’s basketball staff.

 

For the Ospreys Shyatt is involved in a number of facets, including on court coaching, recruiting, opponent scouting, team academic progress, housing, camps, skill development and is the team’s video coordinator. He also helped design the new men’s basketball locker room, oversees the Nike account and the equipment and managers for the program.

 

Shyatt served two years as a Director of Basketball Operations at Virginia Commonwealth University.  He was responsible for coordinating VCU’s travel arrangements, directing the Anthony Grant Basketball Camp, supervising the managerial and graduate assistant staff, as well as other administrative duties.

 

The South Carolina native helped guide VCU to two regular season conference championships, an NCAA Tournament appearance and an NIT berth. At VCU he helped coach Eric Maynor, the 20th overall selection in the 2009 NBA draft.

 

Head Coach Matthew Driscoll was pleased to add a young up-and-coming coach to his staff.  “He was the perfect piece in finishing our puzzle,” Driscoll said.

 

Prior to working at VCU, Shyatt held the same title at East Carolina University from 2005-07. While at ECU, Shyatt’s duties included team travel, video coordination, film breakdown, as well as serving as men’s basketball camp director.

 

From 2003-05, Shyatt, the oldest son of former Clemson head coach and current University of Florida associate head coach Larry Shyatt, was a volunteer assistant coach at the University of South Carolina.  During his time at USC he was able to obtain a master’s degree in integrated communication and advertising.

 

In addition, Shyatt served as director of the Boys and Girls Summer Day Camps from 2002-05 with the NBA's Cleveland Cavaliers.  Through this camp, Shyatt was able to meet the Cavalier’s star power forward, Carlos Boozer, who presently plays for the Utah Jazz. In 2004, because of their friendship they hosted a camp together in Boozer’s hometown of Juneau, Alaska.  Shyatt also worked for the Five-Star Basketball Camp in Coraopolis, Pa., during the summers of 2003 and 2004 as camp commissioner and counselor.

 

Shyatt earned a varsity letter as a freshman on the Clemson basketball team in 1999-2000. The following season he began his coaching career, serving as a student assistant coach for the next three seasons at Clemson.  He was named to the All-ACC Honor Roll in 2000.  Shyatt received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Clemson in 2003.  He received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Clemson in 2003.

 

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 15, 1981.  A 1999 high school graduate of D.W. Daniel High in Clemson, S.C., Shyatt earned three letters in basketball (including a year in Laramie, Wy.) and was named all-area in 1999 by Easley Progress and Anderson Independent Mail. In addition, he was named Academic All-State by the High School Sports Report.
